About Ian Ibbotson

Ian Ibbotson is CTO of Alert-Hub.org. He works across systems theory, software engineering and information science, with a long-running focus on connecting information to the people who need it.

Ian Ibbotson's involvement in global information propagation stretches back to around 2003, when he met Eliot through the Z39.50 Implementors Group in Washington, DC. Since then, he has remained close to the problem of connecting someone with something to say to someone who needs to know it. That was—and remains—the core mission of Knowledge Integration Ltd.

Ian reconnected with the Common Alerting Protocol community around a decade ago, working on ways to improve retrieval and aggregation across the global CAP ecosystem. In 2021, Ian and Eliot incorporated Alert-Hub.org as a UK Community Interest Company to formalise this work. It has included collaboration with Google Public Alerts on CAP uptake and with Google Research on flood prediction and guidance, as well as broader investigation of how modern AI platforms may affect the global alerting ecosystem.

Ian's background is primarily in systems theory, software engineering and information science. He is often found in the CAP community's Telegram group.
